Review: For the price I paid for this shelf, I expect(ed) it to be in near flawless condition. As we all know, stainless steel scratches easily and dents are very noticeable in the light.
For some unknown reason, the manufacturer chooses to ship this unit with the bare minimum to protect this shelf from these type of damages. Advance Tabco places protective wrap on the front face of the shelf and along the inside where the microwave would sit where no one will see. No protective wrap is placed on the outside and beneath the shelf, where the aesthetics are more important since those portions of the shelf are most visible. Furthermore, the protective wrap isn't even in good condition as all of the edges have scratches in them where the wrapping has worn away during storage. The shelf is shipped as described above in a cardboard container with styrofoam on the inside of the shelf unit to presumably prevent the box from collapsing. No styrofoam is placed on the outside of the shelf to prevent dents, dings and scratches during packing or shipping, which is what happenend to the shelf that was sent to me...twice. I settled for the scratches and ding on the second unit so I wouldn't have to go thru the return process again. I will say the manufacturer was very accomodating in satisfying the customer. My recommendation to the maunufacturer: apply protective wrapping to the entire shelf and pack the shelf in styrofoam so that the shelf is not in direct contact with the outside of the box to prevent damage during the packing and shipping process, like other manufacturers do.
