Pizza Supplies – Caring for a wood pizza peel
American Metalcraft offers some great tips on caring for wooden pizza peels. Before you use a wood pizza peel for the first time, it is important to prep the pizza peel. To prep a wood pizza peel, wipe the entire surface of the pizza peel with a food safe oil (such as mineral oil).
Take extra care when washing a treated wood pizza peel. It is important that you do not expose a wood pizza peel to a dishwasher, abrasive sponges, caustic cleaners or acidic detergents. Always hand-wash a wooden pizza peel with a soft cloth, and dry the pizza peel thoroughly.
Be sure to avoid leaving a wood pizza peel on hot surfaces. Doing so will increase the chance of a wood pizza peel warping. If a wood pizza peel does warp, leave the pizza peel overnight with the warp facing up and it should flatten.
