In case you hadn't noticed, it's Olympics time again....and McDonald's is all over it. Besides sending a number of deserving employees to the Beijing for the Olympic games (and to man the McDonald's restaurants there), the "Golden Arches" has also sponsored an employee-only Olympic-style event: the Best Big Mac Builder competition.
That got me thinking...although there is little that can compare to seeing the Olympics in person, what are some smaller ideas for motivating your staff to be at their best every day? A short article on MarketingProfs might offer you a few ideas. Of the three ideas they offer, I most like their first:
"1. Stop helping the customer!
One way to lose the irritating "helper" mannerism is by realizing that customers are helping you more than you're helping them. After all, customer feedback helps your company grow. Hang on your customer's every helpful word. Marvel at their observations. Make them feel like an insider. Then show them your gratitude by accommodating them like crazy."
Seems simple, but I'm sure we've all been to restaurants where the wait staff act like our helper--grudgingly at one end of the spectrum and overly friendly (read: insincere) at the other. It's a talented server that can come across as sincere and show real gratitude when customers compliment--as well as complain about--the service or food.
The weekend has officially begun... Take some time to reflect on what could give your entire staff a little extra push to be at their best every day. And if you come up with any interesting ideas (or already have them from previous experience), please share them here!
