Bar Stool Swivel Fix-Up
By Sarah
2/1/2011 9:53:00 AM

Bar Stool Swivel Fix-Up

If the swivels on your bar stools are not working quite as well as you would like, you can find replacement bar stool swivels at Servu-Online. No need to replace the entire bar stool, Servu-Online has bar stool replacement parts available to help you fix-up your existing bar stools in no time.

The first step to replacing your bar stool swivel is to determine what type of bar stool swivel you will need. Servu-Online offers flat bar stool swivels and pitched bar stool swivels. It is fairly common to find flat bar stool swivels on most backless bar stools, and to find pitched bar stool swivels on most bar stools with backs.

Next you will need to remove the current bar stool swivel from your bar stool. Before you attach the new bar stool swivel you will need to ensure that the mounting holes on the new bar stool swivel match the existing holes in your bar stool. If the new bar stool swivel is not an exact match, you can drill new holes into your bar stool. Provided the holes only vary by no more than ¼ inch, most bar stools will maintain their structural integrity once the new holes are drilled.

Once your new bar stool swivel is installed, your bar stool should be ready for use. However be sure to give your bar stool a careful inspection before putting it back into service. Be sure to inspect the bar stool for any loose joints, or any hardware that may have come loose or damaged by the installation of the new bar stool swivel.

Bar Stool Maintenance Tips

Bar Stool Maintenance Tips

Servu-Online recommends that you perform a thorough inspection of each bar stool once a month. When inspecting your bar stools you will want to carefully inspect each bar stool for loose joints. Anytime you discover a bar stool with loose joints, that particular bar stool should be removed from service. One loose joint on a bar stool will place extra pressure on the bar stool’s other joints, and could cause the bar stool to collapse.

When cleaning your wood bar stools, you should always use a furniture polish designed specifically for wood. It is strongly recommended that you NOT use any type of water-based cleaning solutions, or water itself when cleaning your wood bar stools. Cleaning any wood bar stool with water or a water-based cleaning solution will result in the grain and finish of the wood bar stool raising and peeling.

Bar Stool Selection Made Easy
By Sarah

Bar Stool Selection Made Easy

With so many bar stools to choose from, how do you know which bar stools are best for your bar or restaurant? Servu-Online offers a wide array of bar stools in various heights, styles and materials. Below are a few features to consider before you place your next bar stool order from Servu-Online.

Bar Stool Height
Most bar stools are available with a standard seat height of 30 inches. However some bar stools are also available in 18 inch and 24 inch seat heights. The bar stool’s seat height is important, as you want your customers to be as comfortable as possible. A good rule of thumb is to allow 10 to 13 inches between the bar stool seat and the bottom of the bar table or counter.

Bar Stool Style
The style of the bar stool you choose will characterize the overall décor of your bar or restaurant. The styles of bar stools available from Servu-Online range from retro to modern to traditional. Retro 50’s style bar stools provide your restaurant or bar with distinct feeling of nostalgia, while more traditional styles of bar stools will blend with nearly any décor.

Bar Stool Material and Construction
The bar stools available from Servu-Online are designed with durability and practicality in mind. Your bar stools will surely be used (and unfortunately abused) nearly every day, therefore it is essential to consider the materials used to construct each bar stool. Whether you choose wood bar stools or metal bar stools, you can rest assured that the bar stools purchased from Servu-Online are built to last.

Bar Stool Seat Style
Bar stools are available with a variety of seat styles – full bucket seat bar stools, club bucket seat bar stools, open back seat bar stools and backless seat bar stools. While backless seat bar stools typically take up less space, bar stools with backs typically offer your customers are more comfortable seat.

Bar Stool Seats – Upholstered vs. Non-Upholstered
Consider the overall style and feel of your restaurant or bar before you decide to choose upholstered or non-upholstered bar stools seats. Upholstered bar stools seats can add another dimension of color, texture and style to the overall décor of your bar or restaurant. Non-upholstered bar stools are easy to clean and maintain and are versatile in any décor.

Bar Stool Swivels
Some bar stools offer a swivel option. Swivel bar stools allow your customers to easily enter and exit a crowded counter area. Non-swivel bar stools provide secure, stationary seating for those patrons that may not prefer a seat that moves.

Barstools 101: Buying the Best
By Hannah
7/15/2010 9:46:00 AM

A bar is not a bar without barstools. For your customers, sitting on barstools allows a view of all their surroundings. You can’t scope out other bar patrons or the big game without grabbing a barstool. Investing in the right barstools for your restaurant creates an atmosphere that will lure customers and make them want to linger. Here are some important tips for purchasing the best barstools:

Take proper measurements. Size is a crucial to space planning and the interior design of your bar. Measure the height of your bar counter so that you don’t end up with barstools that are too high. Typically, barstools have a 30 inch seat height for a bar of average 45 to 48 inch height. Be sure to take any overhang into account. Give your customers space to spread out their legs or swivel the seat. Allow at least 25 inches of counter space for each barstool.

Consider your material options. Do you want a durable standard vinyl seat? Are you interested in the wide range of colors available for premium vinyl barstool seats? Perhaps wood is most appropriate?

Decide which features you are interested in adding. Barstools are quite versatile in their range of options. Some barstools provide the support of full backrests, others are open-backed or backless. Swivel seats are an option some customers enjoy. You may opt for a combination of features on your barstools, just make sure that your bar is uniform!

Enjoy your shopping experience and give a friendly Serv-U sales representative a call if you need a consultation! Stay tuned for tips on maintaining your barstools.

Deciding What Type and How Many Bar Stools Your Restaurant Needs
By Roger
12/2/2009 12:28:00 PM

The bar stool has become an important element in many restaurants and the trend only seems to be growing. So how does one choose a bar stool that is right for their application? What features are important, what style of bar stool is best for a specific application, how many chairs are needed to fill a certain amount of space, is there care and maintenance required? These are the questions many restaurant owners ask themselves when trying to purchase bar stools for their restaurant

Classic bar stoolThe classic bar stool is more a product of function than of style but a wide selection of wooden bar stools and metal bar stools are highly functional as well as stylish. Classic bar stools with a metal base, swivel seat and no seat back were primarily designed as functional bar seating with little consideration to style. However many of today’s wooden bar stool and metal bar stool are stylish piece of furniture in their own right that also fulfill the function of the classic bar stool. The swivel seat is an excellent feature on many bar stools, especially if they will be used in a tight space where having the customer sit and swivel into place will be much easier than trying to pull out a bar stool then shuffle it back into place once they are seated. Seat backs are also a good feature to consider as they are more comfortable to sit in for longer periods than a backless bar stool.

When trying to choose a style of bar stool look to the rest of the dining area for inspiration. Many manufactures offer the same style of furniture in both a bar stool and chair version, so coordinating the two in a new restaurant or during a remodeling project can be quite simple. If there comes a need to replace a bar stool during the restaurants design cycle because the old bar stools have become worn, then the best choice would be to match the new bar stool to the ones being replaced or trying to match the overall style present in the dining area to the new bar stools.

Metal cross back bar stoolA common question people ask when looking to purchase a bar stool is; how many do I need? Just as restaurant owners avoid crowding their dinning room the same logic holds true for the bar area. Having too many bar stools crowded together can cause an uncomfortable experience for patrons. Luckily there is an industry standard for bar stool placement which is 26 to 30 inches distance as measured from the center of each bar stool. This provides enough room for dinners to eat and socialize without feeling as if they are sitting on top of each other. With this measurement in mind, a bar or restaurant owner can measure their allotted bar space and then determine how many bar stools they will need.

A bar stool can be a large investment, taking proper care of wood bar stools can greatly increase their life, be sure to read the manufacturer’s care instructions for in-depth information. Cleaning them on a regular basis with furniture polish will help protect them from wear and tear. Plus there are a few additional items to be aware of that can help extent the life of your wood bar stool. Clean spills immediately, this can be difficult in a busy bar environment but an upholstered bar stool can quickly become ruined if liquor or other items stain the seat area. The faster the spill is cleaned up, the less time the spill has to soak into the fabric. Try and avoid placing bar stools two close to the walls or other furniture items. Bar stools can easily cause damage to other furniture from rubbing back and forth on it or it can become damaged itself. Finally, try and encourage customers to not lean back on two legs. Not only can this be a injury claim waiting to happen if the customer falls, it also puts a large strain on the back pair of legs and the bar stool back which can cause either area to break under the strain.

Wooden lattice back bar stoolWooden bar stools, as with all wood furniture, should not be placed in a situation where it is subjected to extreme dry or humid conditions. Wooden bar stools are a living piece of furniture which will dissipate or absorb moisture depending on the environment conditions. As the bar stool absorbs moisture from the air around it in a humid environment it will swell just as it will shrink when exposed to an extremely dry environment. This is a natural cycle for all wood furniture but when taken to extremes it can cause the wood to crack, weaken, or split over time.
